  • Served for 35 years and retired as Director of Veteran Services Office for Orange County.
  • Served most recently in our UMAVA Board for several years.
  • Drove himself at age 91 to our meetings.
  • Passed to a better life on Wednesday April 20, 2011 
  • Rest in Peace!

Marianas Legislature Proclamation
Including resolutions for recommendation for US Medal of Honor by his Commanding Officer; and by a USMC Brig. Gen.
He brought in over 1,500 Japanese soldiers and civilians, at a time when the Japanese strict honor code prohibited surrender, and orders to kill 7 US Army/US Marines for every Japanese killed during Saipan (WWII).
He passed aways on Aug 31, 2006.

First casualty of the Iraq War from Orange County, CA - On March 23, 2003"

"Jose Angel was Mexican, and he loved the US as his own life, and he gave his life for it, even if others don't serve their country.  He wanted to serve with bravery and courage.  He was brave and courageous!" 

(Cpl Garibay's mom - Mrs. Simona Garibay's words to Commander Barragan on June 6, 2010, at Candlelight Vigil led by Desert Storm combat veteran Marine Cpl Alexander "Plumas" Madrigal, also Desert Storm Veteran Marine Tom Fortney, "Bear" and Erica).
"Jose Angel era mexicano, y amaba a los Estados Unidos como a su propia vida, y dio su vida por eso, aunque hay otros que no dan servicio a su nacion.  El queria servir con valor y coraje.  El era valiente y corajoso!"
